Kaiser Permanente Celebrates the Arrival of the
Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics to the City of Pasadena

Who: Edward Ellison, MD, executive medical director for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group, and member of the Special Olympics LA2015 Board of Directors, and Benjamin Chu, MD, MPH, MACP, group president for Kaiser Permanente Southern California and Kaiser Permanente Georgia, will join the City of Pasadena as they celebrate the arrival of the Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics and welcome Special Olympics World Games LA2015 athletes and coaches, from Namibia, Tanzania, and Singapore as part of the Special Olympics World Games Host Town Program.  

 

The free city celebration, which will include participation by Pasadena Mayor Terry Tomek, Pasadena Police Department, Host Town Pasadena officials, Pasadena Unified School District Special Education representatives and Kaiser Permanente, will honor the courage, determination, and joy of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games athletes.

 

When:  Wednesday, July 22, 2015, 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Celebratory remarks to begin at approximately 12:50 p.m.)

Background: Kaiser Permanente is a Founding Champion and the Official Health Partner of the Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles 2015. More than 650 physicians and 160 support staff will be providing care to the athletes participating in the World Games competitions at venues such as USC, UCLA, Long Beach and the Los Angeles Convention Center. The Games, taking place from July 25 to August 2, 2015, will be the largest sports and humanitarian event anywhere in the world this year and the single biggest event in Los Angeles since the 1984 Olympic Games.
